Road Race
Burg Wheelers Cycling Club is proud to present the Karkloof Road Race with our new sponsor, Brink Towbars. The race takes place from La Petite France (better known as the Karkloof Farmer’s Market, 9 Karkloof Road) on Sunday 14th September. The prefect time for cyclists to get active in early Spring and in preparation for the Ride Joburg in October and the South Coast Cycle Race on 28 September.
The event offers two race distances, both starting and finishing from La Petite France. The route makes use of the beautiful stretch of tar road between St Johns Village (just outside Howick) to the end of the tar road – one out and back loop comprising just under 40km. The 80km race does a double lap. The rolling terrain and beautiful scenery in the Karkloof Valley make it all the more worthwhile to enjoy seeing it twice!
La Petite France is a lovely venue being close to Howick and with plenty of parking on site. There is also good food and an enticing cheese selection for purchase at the venue, what Preston Farm is famous for. Clubs are encouraged to put up their gazebo’s and enjoy some social time after the event.
Exciting news!
The Brink Karkloof Road Race is the first event in the new Hills and Waves Road Cycling Series presented by MD24. Riders taking part in this series will have an opportunity to win some cash category prizes at the end of the series as well as some lucky draws. The idea is to encourage participation in six road cycling events in the province over the summer season, with the final event being the Tour Durban on 19 April 2026.
