ORGANISED TRAINING

Club Rides.

Experienced leaders.

Our cycling club training rides are organised by our Road and MTB Captains. We have experienced group leaders who plan and lead the weekly road cycling and mountain bike training rides.

Road Rides.

Road training rides take place on Tuesday and Thursday mornings in the summer months. The “D” and “C” groups leave at 4:50am, the “B” Group at 4:55am and the A Group at 5am. Group leaders will vary the distance, which is normally around 25km. Most of the rides are in town, with a variation of some track riding, pace lining and power intervals. Saturday rides are invariably +/- 90km; in summer they start at 5.00am and in winter at 5:30am.

MTB Rides.

Wednesday MTB rides start at Crossways in Hilton at 3:30pm in summer and 3.00pm in winter. Open to all mountain bikers. Saturday morning MTB rides start from the Quarry Shopping Centre in Hilton, at 6:30am in summer and 7:00am in winter, opposite Jaxx. Most MTB rides take place in the Hilton and Cedara areas. MTB training rides will vary with single track, hills, jeep track and gravel roads. Distances are normally between 30km and 40km.

Track Rides.

Groups regularly meet for training sessions at the Sax Young Cycling Velodrome, on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and on Sunday mornings. Details of these track cycling sessions are provided on the Track Cycling WhatsApp group.

We also host an annual Track Cycling event. In 2022 we organised a 24-hour Track Challenge and in 2023, we will host a 12-hour Track Challenge.

Training rides starting locations and times are communicated via The Burg Talk and our various WhatsApp groups. For all our rides, new club members will be asked which discipline they would like to participate in (road, track or MTB), and their riding ability will be established by the Road, Track or MTB Captain, who will then add them to the relevant group (A, B or C).

Club Policies.

  • Members must wear Burg Wheelers Cycling Club (BWCC) club kit on all club organized rides and races.
  • Visibility: On all BWCC club rides, riders must have a working front light that is able to flash for day use, as well as a working rear light that flashes and is visible from at least one KM behind. Front and rear light batteries must be able to last for at least a 4 hr ride. The front light needs to be at least 1500 lumen.
  • Safety: BWCC members are required to carry/wear ICE (In Case of Emergency) information when on a club ride. The bracelet format of this is very convenient.

Codes of Conduct.

We have Codes of Conduct for Road, Track and MTB riding which all BWCC members are expected to follow.
